Tony's thoughts of Week 1
Week 1 I think was a very successful premier for Season 12! Let’s see what I thought.
BRYAN & KYM
Well I think I might have underestimated Bryan. The routine I’m imagining was super fun! He’s clearly not going to be as talented as some of the other contestants this season, but I think it was a good first effort from Bryan! Can’t wait t see what these two could do next week!
JENNIFER & DEREK
Well, I think it’s safe to say no one expected Jennifer to get the highest score in week one. At least, I never thought she would! I think this Foxtrot was super classy and pitched just right. They had an awesome song and Derek is an awesome choreographer! Hope they can keep it up next week!
MARK & KARINA
Don’t get me wrong, I think this routine could have been super fun, but I think technique would work against Mark, especially in week 1. I see him being more concerned with the entertainment factor over technique, but I think he definitely can improve!
KASEY & PETA
Like I said in my preseason thoughts, I see Kasey being super stiff, and I think that might have been the case here along with him probably not having the technique down. In addition to a pretty bad routine, I find myself forgetting Kasey’s in the cast. So we’ll see how that effects Week 2’s elimination.
RINGO & LACEY
I think I liked this one! I’ve always been a fan of Lacey and I think she would be a bit starstruck having a legend like Ringo for her partner! Nevertheless, like Bryan, it was better than I was expecting! Hopefully Ringo can make it past the first couple eliminations!
PAUL & ANNA
Well I love the song, I love these two together, and I think I really liked what I was thinking from this. No, Paul isn’t the best dancer, but I think he would definitely try his hardest, and that’s what I got from this cha-cha! Super fun and I can’t wait for next week!
SHONTELLE & HENRY
Well I told you guys that I think she’s going to be a dark horse this season, and this Foxtrot said just that to me.
If she can handle a classy dance like the foxtrot in Week 1, and get the second highest score of the night, she’s gonna be on everyone’s radar soon! I hope these two can make it far this season!
JAMIE & CHERYL
I definitely imagined an emotional routine from Jamie. I still don’t think Ballroom will be his cup of tea, but I think he can only get better from here on out! I like these two together, and I think he can go far. He’s got Contemporary next week, so I’m a bit worried, but I think he’ll be able to pull it off!
CHANDRA & VAL
What I think about when I picture Chandra dancing is the fact that she might look a little scared! I see some small movements when I know she could open up and really sell her dance! I thought she was some “hot stuff” with this cha-cha, but I don’t think she would believe herself! I hope she can improve!
STANA & MAKSIM
I think these two might my second favorite pair of Season 12. The Viennese Waltz I’m picturing with this couple, this song, is simply elegance personified. I think Stana would have some problems with her frame, but I definitely think she could have potential.
CHARLIE & LINDSAY
I’m really not sure how to feel about these two, really. I think he could do somewhat well, but I don’t know if he’d be able to execute Lindsay’s choreography as well as anyone would like him to. There’s room for improvement, and I don’t think he’d be that horrible.
HELENA & TRISTAN
The dance I’m picturing kind of looks like a hot mess. But a fun hot mess! Haha! I think Helena could have sold the cheeky Cha-Cha, but I’m not so sure she’d have the rhythm to keep up with Tristan. So a fun, awkward hot mess, I guess. Haha! Maybe she can do better next week.
DEMI & MARK
Demi, I think, has the some of the highest expectations on her this season. She’s a big name and everyone would want her to do well. I wasn’t exactly sold on this Viennese Waltz, however. I want more from Demi! And I know she has what it takes to make it far this season!
KATE & TONY
First off, I just want to say when I first heard this song I thought it was a good Paso. Then Natalie throws me a curveball by using it as a Foxtrot! And guess what? I think it actually works! Kate’s got huge potential, and she, like Demi, is going to be held at a higher standard than most, so she’s got a lot to prove this season! And I think she could definitely deliver!
