Tony's thoughts on Glee Week
Wow! A lot of people stepped up their game on Wednesday! I don’t think we’ve ever seen so many
9s this early on in the competition! Let’s delve into the dances of Glee Week, shall we?
DEMI & MARK
This song, I think, would not have had the impact it had on me as it did if it were given to someone else. Demi really became a ray of sunshine in this dance! I can just picture she and Mark decked out in super yellow outfits. And Demi’s certainly on the right track after this dance! I would definitely keep voting for these two because they could very well take home the trophy!
MARK & KARINA
This particular mash-up I have listened to about 300 or so times, according to iTunes. So I clearly love the song. And the dance I’m imagining from Mark, I think I love too! As I’ve been saying, I think Mark would definitely be more of a showman than he would be a technician. But that sure wouldn’t stop him from selling his dances! I think he sold this dance for sure, but I just think he’d have some issues with the Tango technique.
STANA & MAKSIM
Well, it wasn’t as good as last week, no. But I think Stana could really have connected with the character and
feel of this dance. In the Ne-Yo original, it really just sounds like a good, old-fashioned party dance. But the slowed down cover really makes you listen to the lyrics and you find out that it’s actually kind of a love song! And it definitely works for the Contemporary! I think Stana could have been a little stiff, but I definitely wouldn’t count her out just yet.
SHONTELLE & HENRY
I told you guys that Shontelle would come back this week and really knock out her dance! At least, that’s what I picture in my head! I think Shontelle really could have gotten into the character of this dance, and with another Beyoncé inspired dance, I think she really would have nailed it. Without a doubt her best dance, and a wonderful comeback from her mistake riddled Salsa last week!
JAMIE & CHERYL
I don’t know what it was about this dance that prevented me from giving it a 9, to e honest. Maybe it was the song, or maybe I just don’t think I bought the idea of it. I really can’t say, but I think it might have been a small step backwards for Jamie. Don’t get me wrong, I think he’d still be a fantastic dancer, and probably kill the Paso, but I just wasn’t feeling this one.
RINGO & LACEY
Well, Ringo is still in the game! And I think he’d definitely be trying to show us that just because he’s 72 does not mean he can’t dance! I know I keep mentioning his age, and probably should stop, but really how can you not! It’s definitely a key factor when picturing his dances. All in all, I think he probably would do better in these closed hold,
ballroom dances, like he did with his Foxtrot. I don’t know if he’ll make it to next week, however.
CHANDRA & VAL
Very sweet, very elegant and right up Chandra’s alley. While I think the height difference might have been a tiny issue, I don’t think it would have been the source of all Chandra’s problems. I think the tempo was quite right for Chandra, and the character, as I mentioned, as well. I think that she might not have gotten the technique right away, but it’s her highest scoring dance! So maybe we’ll see more improvements from these two!
JENNIFER & DEREK
I can’t remember if I said this in my preseason thoughts, but when I think of Jennifer, I think of light, airy ballroom dances. Not down and dirty Latin dances. And while the song is the exact opposite of a raunchy song, I don’t know that Jennifer would have had the ability to really sell her samba. It’s the one dance I was dreading from her to do.
Luckily, she got it out of the way in Week 4. I’d say it’s smooth sailing from here on out, but we all know that’s not
true. But I do think she’ll make a comeback next week!
KATE & TONY
Can I just say how happy it makes me that I’m the only one that gives a dance a 10? It’s weird of me, I know, but as a self proclaimed “tough judge” it gives me a bit of pride to know that I was the only one that thought a dance was perfect. And someone call the fire department. If you saw this dance routine on Glee, then you know how hot it was there. Just imagine how hot it would have been to an Argentine Tango. Without a doubt Kate’s best dance so far, and definitely the dance of the night. I know what I want for Sunday’s encore. ;)
PAUL & ANNA
We all know these two are my favorites this season; I do nothing to make that unknown. And I think that Paul definitely has the acting chops to pull off a great rumba…just not the hips. I think that’s the biggest factor working against Paul when I think about him trying to dance a rumba. I don’t think there would have been any awkwardness, just a lack of technique due to poor hip action. I know he can come back and hopefully do better for us!
BRYAN & KYM
Well they made me eat my words when I said I don’t think Bryan would ever do as well as his Quickstep two weeks ago. In retrospect, maybe I should have given this an 8 because it definitely wasn’t as fast as the Quickstep. Kym’s a fantastic choreographer, so I think she could really come up with a routine that would suit Bryan’s personality and talent. Overall, I can picture a pretty sweet and tender dance from these two, so I definitely think he did well.
HELENA & TRISTAN
I do like her. But I just cannot seem to accept the fact that she could be a decent dancer. Even in dances like the Foxtrot and Viennese Waltz like we just saw from her. I don’t know. I think this may be Helena’s last week with us if I can’t seem to think she’ll improve. Not much else to say about her.
So there’s Week 4 all wrapped up! I think Helena’s the one that’s going to be eliminated, and maybe Ringo might find himself in jeopardy. We’ll have to see on Sunday! Thanks for reading and please feel free to follow me on Twitter
