Tony's thoughts and scores on Michael Jackson Week
I love the fact that Natalie decided to pay tribute to the King of Pop this week! Some awesome song choices! And there’s the added pressure of the Immunity Challenge too! Let’s see what I thought of this week and how I would have scored! My scores will be in the [#] brackets.
Jamie & Cheryl: 9,9,9 + [9] = 36
I’m very glad to see Jamie have a bit of a comeback this week! Personally, MJ week seems like the perfect time for Jamie to get a 30, or at least some more 10s, but I feel like opening the show still is a big daunting for some. And maybe Jamie’s performance might have been scored a bit higher. But a good dance from him and a decent
comeback this week!
Demi & Mark: 9,9,10 + [10] = 38
Honestly, Demi –I think– is becoming a bigger threat than most anticipated. At least, that’s the way it is for me! I’ve used her before on a fantasy season, but I never gave her a 10. And I’m beginning to wonder why the heck that was!
While I don’t think she’s had any 30 worthy performances, or that I think she’s going to win Season 12, it’s nice to see her doing better than I expected!
Ringo & Lacey: 5,5,7 + [4] = 21
Well I have got to hand it to the voters for keeping him in this long! Honestly, I would have expected him out long ago! I think at this point, we’d be seeing Ringo getting really tired, and probably have some achy joints, for sure. And maybe the Rumba is a dance he might be able to relax a little more in…but I can’t help but picture how awkward this dance would have been. I would say he’d be in danger on Sunday, but I know he won’t.
Paul & Anna: 8,7,10 + [7] = 32
Paul is still my favorite, but at this point, I think he’s getting close to overstaying his welcome. And while he’s had a good run, I think he’d be getting tired like Ringo. I think part of me was dreading seeing Paul dance the Samba. I just see it being a bit out of his comfort zone, and looking downright awkward for him. I think he’d still be putting in a lot of effort, but he definitely could be in danger after being in the bottom two.
Jennifer & Derek: 10,10,9 + [9] = 38
Okay, this is easily one of my most favorite MJ songs, so I had high expectations for Jennifer this week! And we got hit with a bit of nostalgia from Jennifer’s movie 13 Going on 30! And I think that might have helped her be a little more comfortable dancing to the song! However, Jennifer and the Paso don’t seem like they’d be that great of friends. Haha! Obviously it’s one of the better dances of MJ week, but not Jennifer’s best, I don’t think.
Kate & Tony: 10,10,10 + [10] = 40
I’ve got to hand it to Kate, I had a feeling she’d be the first to get a 30 this season! And she won the Immunity Challenge this week! Honestly guys, it’s going to take a lot to have Kate land in second this season, in my opinion! I don’t want to say it’s a sure thing that Kate’s going to win, because she’s got some stiff competition from Jamie, Jennifer and Demi, so we never know what will happen. But I’ve still got my money on Kate winning! And I think this Tango was pretty amazing! “Beat It” is definitely one of MJ’s more popular songs, and I think Kate sold this like no one’s business!
Mark & Karina: 9,9,9 + [10] = 37
The Salsa is definitely an advantage for Mark’s “performer over technician” kind of dancing, to me. It’s a party dance that doesn’t require a lot of technique, and I think Mark could definitely get away with more than some others this week! The song is one of MJ’s more unknown songs, but I can picture Mark starting out the dance in a ‘20s gangster outfit, looking for his dame to dance with! A ton of fun, and I can’t really think of giving Mark anything less than a 10 for it!
Well, I think MJ week was definitely Season 12’s most successful theme nights, by far! Great job to Natalie for getting some amazing songs! I’ll be back on the judging panel next week, so it’s back to just thoughts for me! Until then! Follow me on Twitter @_MrAntonio_!
